Kimono, meaning wearing thing, has an extensive history dating back to the Edo period (1603-1868) when it was then called Kosode, meaning small sleeves. It was only from the Meiji period (1868-1912) onwards that the garment was called kimono.

Traditionally made in silk, the Kimono is valued for its symbolism; style, motif, color, and material work together to reveal the individual identity of the wearer.
