Chartreuse Indigo

Chartreuse Indigo

Ai-zome, meaning Indigo Dye, is one of the oldest dyeing methods in the world. In Japan, the dye is extracted from polygonum, a species of flowering plant related to buckwheat. The natural dyeing process requires the leaves to be fermented in underground vats for a minimum of a week. The length of this process depends on the darkest of indigo blues wanted.
